Foods in Cambodia and Vietnam
a small restrant inside Angkor Wat.
above is fried noodle with pork and pineapple!!! In Cambodia, the fruits taste so good and are often used in dishes like this. off course it tastes different but so good at the same time. it was a kind of a discovery. salty pork and sweet fruits such as pineapple matches. Plus, pouring soy sause made from fish on this is nice as well.
below is fried noodle and it included a lot of ginger. it was new for me too and off course tasted so nice.
In Siem Reap, deep fried fish.
In Cambodia, fish are almost caught in the rivers and lakes. In Japan, fish are alomst caught in the see. some might be afraid of eating river fish and lake fish.
but don't worry. In Siem Reap, we did not have stomach problems. Plus, Tonle Sap lake is so big and clean. and the people are catching a lot of fish there and that helps Cambodian people's everyday dinning.
please try river fish and lake fish when you visit Cambodia.
Off course, it tasted good.
this is bamboo steamed rice.
they put rice and beans into the hole of bamboo, covering the above, steam with cocconuts flavored water. when eating, remove the cover above, bark the bamboo skin like you can see in the picture, and eat with your hand.
it tasted so nice and was very simple local taste. anyway, I think this food has so smart a way of cooking. using natral features such as bamboo's hole. I think they who invented this food are so smart.
we bought lunch in Old Market in Siem Reap. despite that I hear the Old Market is getting more touristic place these days, we could see many local people are buying things and foods that they need in thier daily living.
we just told without a language what we want to eat using gestures, etc, an woman in the market kindly packed the foods for us, and we ate it outside the market where we can see the Siem Reap river very near Old Market.
it was so cheap and tasted off course so good.
Cambodia, the country where the fruits tasted very good.
this is mango shake. very thick fruits shakes. we liked to drink this kind of fruit shake anywhere in Siem Reap.
in Ho-Chi-Minh City.
this is typical vietnamese omelette. I have ever had such an omelette in tokyo before and liked it. actually, Vietnamese foods are popular in Japan, right?
Off course, this omelette was far better than what we had in Japan. maybe it is off course. because this is natural local Vietnamese omelette.
flesh spring roll. this is also favorite and popular food for Japanese.
I guess not so many people in Vietnam eat spring roll this way. once when I was Hanoi, I ate spring roll many times but they were always deep fried. so flesh spring roll serverd here might be for Japanese tourists.
anyway, it tasted so good!
I like the food in Cambodia and Vietnam so much.
during the 9days travel, we almost had local food everyday without a few cases, and I did not miss Japanese food at all. maybe this is one of the reason why I did not want to go back to Japan.
every food is so healthy, simple but taste good with unique flover, sometimes it tasted different and new but was good at the same time. I did not get fed up with Cambodian food nor Vietnamese food.
I guess the people in Cambodia and Vietnam do not use artificial flavorings. maybe that is why I was not fed up with the foods there.
so I ate a lot everyday. the picture is I who eat a steamed meat bun after the dinner.
Vietnamese rice noodle soup, Pho.
Was it good?
PERFECT!!!
what a funny face.
what a funny face, again.
just eating Pho consentrated, without taking care of Camera.
This Pho was such a nice one!!!
Again, Pho at the Ben Thanh market, in the middle of Saigon. Tastes good? see the picture below.
good!!!
Cambodia and Vietnam were once French colony. therefore you can easily find good bread. interestingly, the people in Cambodia and Vietnam add their own local taste to the French bread. as a result, there are many good, and slightly different sandwiches all around the both countries. these sandwiches also include meat and vegitable, and local soy sause made from fish, and local peppers and sause. this is totally mixture of France and Cambodia and Vietnam. off course that is why it tastes a little bit different. but at the same time it's quite new and tasted so good for me.
